Bio-Fuels

As well as generating renewable energy from organic materials, the company also produces a range of bio-fuels. The liquid and solid bio-fuels are supplied to industrial markets to replace fossil fuels such as oil and coal for steam and power generation. The liquid bio-fuels are also be used as feedstocks for bio-diesel production.

Bio-fuels are made from 100% renewable materials and qualify as ‘biomass’ under the Government’s renewable energy legislation (the Renewables Obligation Order 2002), introduced to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and to limit climate change in line with the UK’s commitments under the Kyoto protocol.

In addition to producing bio-fuels for industrial markets, SARIA also widely uses bio-fuels on its own production sites in place of fuel oil or gas.

Compared to fossil fuels, SARIA’s liquid bio-fuels generate far less carbon emissions and produce a quarter of the particulates and a tenth of the acid gases such as sulphur oxides and nitrogen chloride.

  • The UK is committed to increasing the production of energy from renewable, sustainable sources to reduce environmental impact
  • SARIA not only generates renewable energy in the form of electricity and heat at its power plants, it also supplies bio-fuels to the power industry
  • SARIA has pioneered the use of food residue-derived biomass fuels for power generation and has used this expertise in partnership with power producers to develop new fuel streams
  • SARIA is investing in new systems and technologies to increase the production of renewable energy and bio-fuels
