From Plate to Power with PDM’s food waste collection services

PDM Group has launched an innovative new initiative to collect catering waste and turn it into renewable energy.

Everyone is becoming increasingly aware of the need to find sustainable alternatives to landfill for the disposal of food wastes.

PDM's award-winning food waste recycling services are available nationally, and have already been snapped up by major UK supermarkets eager to turn their food waste from an environmental liability into a source of renewable energy. PDM is now extending the service to cover food waste generated by restaurants, cafes, pubs and fast-food outlets

The first phase for PDM's catering waste recycling service covers the Midlands area; the service will then be rolled out to cover the Northern and Southern regions. A new fleet of low emission vehicles has been introduced to operate the service in the London area.

PDM's plants recycle unsold food and leftovers to produce bio-fuels to generate green power at the company's power plants.

“We’ve used pioneering technology to ensure we can handle food wastes from all sources,” explains Regional Account Manager Suzanne McDermott, “and we believe the services we’ve developed will help members of the catering industry develop more sustainable and transparent processes.”
